The Office of Grants and Contracts is located on the second floor of Ross Hall in room 204A and is a service unit dedicated to the management of the organizational, financial and personnel activities of sponsored programs.  The programs are administered through the Vice President for Research for the benefit of the Board of Regents, University and Community College System of Nevada on behalf of the University of Nevada, Reno.  The service function includes:   coordinating with faculty, graduate students and staff in the development and management of maintaining records of all applicable federal, state, local and private industry regulations and assisting in the verification of the compliance requirement with auditors - federal, local, private and state.

The federal auditors (currently our cognizant audit agency is the Department of Health and Human Services) negotiate and approve the indirect cost rates.

The indirect cost rate in effect for the period for organized research was 44.3 percent, instruction was 50.0 percent and other sponsored activity was 24.2 percent.  The base is modified total direct costs.  These costs consist of salaries and wages, fringe benefits, materials and supplies, services, travel and up to $25,000 on each subgrant and subcontract.
